Royal Antwerp defender Ritchie de Laet has revealed what ex-Leicester City teammate Jamie Vardy was up to before he broke the Premier League goalscoring record. According to him, Jamie Vardy drank almost an entire bottle of port the night before he set a new record for goal in consecutive Premier League games. The record was held by former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy before Jamie Vardy broke it and set a new one. Dutchman Van Nistelrooy had scored in ten straight games in the Premier League. Coincidentally, Jamie Vardy set the record with his opening goal in the game with Manchester United at the King Power Stadium. He scored for the 11th game in a row in the Premier League during the special Leicester City season of the 2015/16 campaign to give hosts Leicester City the lead but they could not hold on to that advantage as they were forced to a 1-1 draw by the Red Devils. Jamie Vardy finished that season on 24 goals but it was not enough to give him the Golden Boot. Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane won the award with 25 goals ahead of both Vardy and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero on 24 goals.
Ritchie de Laet spent the first half of that title-wining campaign at Leicester City before the Belgian international was sent on loan. Ritchie de Laet talked about Jamie Vardy in a chat with Sportwereld as he said that the Leicester City players had their won rituals and that they will tell the team coach driver to buy the players a bottle ofportthat would be hidden in their rooms.Vardy has always talked about his drinking habit and the revelation from Ritchie de Laet won’t be a surprise. He was the main man for the Foxes as they stunned a lot of people to win the Premier League title at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
